school holiday activities in Nakuru

In August of 2009 LLK organized a “Summer Break Club” with the British volunteer organization AVIF.  Two young teachers, Amy Bosche and Christina Swinger and the psychology student, Laurence Palfreyman, spent the month of August living at our office and working with our children in Nakuru.  Mornings, after breakfast, they worked along with our staff teachers tutoring the children and giving special classes to broaden the children’s learning horizons. After a good, warm lunch the volunteers played sports and games, did handicrafts, sang, danced and made music with the children.  This is the first time that we organized this type of activity and we are very impressed with its huge success. During their month in Nakuru two of the volunteers decided to sponsor children and Amy found sponsors for 7 children. We are very thankful to the volunteers, who paid their own way and brought plenty of learning, playing, and crafts materials with them – and to Alison Lowndes of AVIF – Asante Sana!
